Music pioneer – visionary – book author: as a former member and drummer of the world famous German band Kraftwerk from 1974 till 1986, Wolfgang Flür surely dwells among the most important personalities in German music history. Already back in 1973 Flür set a standard by revealing the first fully functional electronic drum-set. After various album releases and international tours with Kraftwerk, Wolfgang Flür parted ways with the group in 1986 due to an artistic standstill.
As a direct response to the Bosnian war he formed the benefit project “Yamo“ in 1993, releasing the debut single „Little Child“ within the same year. After signing a fresh deal with EMI Electrola he published the album „Yamo - Time Pie“ in 1997, co-produced by Andy Toma (Mouse on Mars).
Ever since the end of the 1990s the artist, born in Frankfurt (Main), gained worldwide renown on the literary ground. His autobiography „Ich war ein Roboter“ („I was a robot“), published in 1999, has so far been translated in 5 different languages and was picked up among the “10 best music Memoirs” by the British “Observer” in 2010.
Alongside his tours as a reading performer „MUSIK SOLDAT“ Wolfgang Flür also cultivated a prospering DJ career. Since 2005 he played recurring gigs in Russia, Ireland, England, Israel, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Serbia and the United States.
2011 witnesses another example of Flür´s various facets as an artist. Together with his partner Zuhal Korkmaz he released a collection of quirky short stories, called „neben-mir-Rheinland-Grotesken“ at the Buchmesse, Leipzig and started an artistic collaboration with Bon Harris (founding member of Nitzer Ebb).
